Summer School

10th – 13th July 2018, Lake Windermere, UK

The 2018 Summer School was another tremendous success. We hope to run it again in the future. If you would be interested in attending a Summer School, please contact This page is left here for reference purposes.

The International Society for Clinical Spectroscopy (CLIRSPEC) would like to invite all students, industrialists and postdoctoral researchers in the multidisciplinary area of clinical infrared and Raman spectroscopy to attend the 4th CLIRSPEC Summer School.

Building upon previous successful summer schools the 2018 Summer School will provide an excellent grounding in spectroscopic fundamentals through to current cutting edge clinical applications and discuss the future of vibrational spectroscopy in the clinical environment including interactive and exciting group problem-based learning sessions.

The Summer School will begin on Tuesday 10th July and end on Friday 13th July 2018 and will be held at the Low Wood Bay Resort Hotel, Lake Windermere.

Comments from previous attendees:

“It is still the best experience I have ever had. Love the location, content and people!”

“I would like to see this become even more successful. Fantastic ideas and groups of experts all in one place.”

“This is the second time I have attended a summer school. The first was an industrial setting. The break for the walk/ alone time, was timed perfectly for much needed battery recharging.”

 “Worth the trip from Australia!”

“First of all, this is a well organised and impressive summer school.”

“Excellent. Very well organised and useful for PhD students and experienced researchers.”

The Summer School is a blend of fundamental spectroscopy with cutting edge clinical practice. Topics include:

  • Fundamentals of Infrared Spectroscopy
  • Fundamentals of Spontaneous Raman Spectroscopy
  • Fundamentals of Non-linear Raman Spectroscopy
  • Experimental Design
  • Clinical Problem Solving Sessions
  • Spectrometer Design
  • Clinical Perspectives
  • Spectral Interpretation
  • Chemometric Analysis

In addition each attendee will be asked to give a short presentation outlining their research, or proposed area of study.

The registration fee includes all accommodation, food, and learning resources.

Registration has now closed.
