To develop our understanding of the interaction of light with clinical samples
Leads
Goals
- Share specific expertise on light interaction with different species of clinical samples to understand spectral artefacts and develop and agree best practice for artefact correction / removal
- Provide an artefact correction / removal toolbox for use by the network and after validation roll-out to the international community post-funding.
Reasoning and added value
Biomedical samples are often very heterogeneous and this presents a problem for most forms of spectroscopy. In some cases the heterogeneity is not just chemical but can be physical i.e. large difference in morphology, optical density and refractive index. A fundamental understanding of these effects, their influence on the measured spectra and how to handle them will only be achieved by collaboration between physicists, spectroscopists and laboratory technicians working directly with clinical samples.
